Research Excellence

A traditional University founded in 1884, Bangor University is currently ranked number 1 in the UK for Research in Accounting and Finance and number 2 in Electronic Engineering. The most recent RAE assessment in 2008 also identified world leading research in all of Bangor's 19 assessed subject areas with nearly 50% given the top grading of 3* and 4*.

Quality Teaching & Learning

Our research excellence is backed up with the quality of teaching and learning. In the most recent National Student Satisfaction survey (NSS) Bangor was ranked 11th in the UK for overall teaching and learning experience.

A wide range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes are available across our 6 colleges including Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Health, Computer Science, Environmental & Natural Resources, Business and Finance, Electronic Engineering, Law and Sports Science.

Fantastic Location

Located in the north of Wales between the Snowdonia mountains and the sea, Bangor is one of the most beautiful study locations in the UK. Known as the 'The City of Learning' Bangor is also one of the safest and cheapest places to study. With a population of only 15,000 people, the city has a friendly atmosphere which help students settle in quickly and the fact that everything is in walking distance makes getting around very easy.

Student Welfare and Support

With over 11,000 students from 70 different countries Bangor has a multicultural feel. Our International Welfare adviser is on hand the help students with any issues and an active Muslim society provides good peer support.

Our student village provides high quality accommodation, excellent sports and social facilities and wireless internet access. We are able to guarantee accommodation to all first year undergraduates and many postgraduate students also gain places in our halls. Single sex accommodation is also available on request.

English Language Training

The English Language Centre for Overseas Students (ELCOS) provides English language and study skills courses to overseas students at Bangor University.

The centre is within the International Student Support department and we have been renowned for our successfully run English Language courses since 1985.
