Established in 1896, the University of Salford is located on a green campus 3km from the centre of Manchester. Salford is a large and successful university, attracting students from more than 140 countries around the world. It has a long and proud tradition of preparing students for employment.

As a result, Salford graduates are prominent in business, industry, the public sector and non-governmental organisations worldwide. Salford graduates currently work in some of the world's leading organisations including Airbus, Nokia, Shell, KPMG, Microsoft, BBC, CNN, IBM, Agip, Morgan Grenfell Bank, Reuters, and AstraZeneca.
The University's research has been recognised as being of national and international importance in government assessments, and the University of Salford is in the top third of UK institutions for research. Salford has an outstanding research record in Built Environment, Information Systems, Computer Science, English, European Studies, Networking and Telecommunications, Art and Design, Music, Material Science and many other areas.
In addition to lectures, tutorials, seminars and e-learning, many Salford students can take a work placement or internship as part of their studies. There is no tuition fee for a placement year.

The University of Salford's green city-centre campus is getting even better because of a £600 million facilities investment programme. The University has invested heavily in libraries and Information Technology to offer its students modern, up-to-date facilities, including thousands of networked computers on campus and high-speed broadband internet in all university accommodation. A new Health Faculty building was opened in 2005, incorporating the latest technologies in its design and construction. In addition, the University forms an integral part of MediaCityUK, along with the BBC It will have 100,000sq ft of space filled with cutting-edge technology - a broadcast zone, digital media zone, virtual laboratory, digital performance and creative spaces. MediaCityUK will make it possible for all areas of the University to be involved in this huge opportunity for the region. It will create new ways of teaching and learning. It means that University of Salford students have a better opportunity to experience working with the creative industries.
The Students' Union funds a variety of clubs and societies, which represent the various national and religious cultures found at the University. Sports facilities include two sports halls, including basketball and badminton, four fully-equipped fitness rooms, a climbing wall, tennis and squash courts, and swimming pool.
Regular surveys of students show the friendliness of the Salford campus and the support students receive from lecturers and tutors. The University has also built links with leading universities, industries and research staff all over the world. This ensures that at whatever level of study, education at Salford will be enhanced by a truly global perspective. The Alumni Association has branches around the world so that friendships developed with staff and students will last a lifetime.

Manchester is a cosmopolitan city and major European cultural centre with an incredible number of things to see and do, with something to suit everyone. The city is alive throughout the day and night, with hundreds of exciting restaurants, café bars, pubs and nightclubs. Music is always in the air - the city is home to major concert venues as well as many smaller clubs and music venues for to enjoy. Manchester also has more theatres than any UK city outside London.
For those that enjoy sport, the University is the closest institution to Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United. It is also within easy reach of their rivals Manchester City at Eastlands. The University has partnered with Lancashire County Cricket Club and the Salford City Reds rugby league team to provide experience and skills to our students.
