University of Southampton

We provide a first-class, rounded education and offer all of our students the opportunity to acquire key transferable skills that will give them a competitive edge in the global careers market. Southampton has a worldwide reputation for academic excellence and students are taught by internationally respected staff working at the forefront of their fields.

Located on England's south coast in the heart of Hampshire, the university is situated in an outstanding location, just over one hour from central London and Heathrow airport and within easy reach of open countryside. This vibrant, cosmopolitan city provides a warm welcome to the 23,000 students who choose to make their home in Southampton.

One of the greenest cities in southern England, our students love the many parks and green spaces around the University, including the huge Southampton Common, located right alongside three of our campuses.

Our coastal location provides countless opportunities for sport and leisure. When students want a break from city life, they can head for the New Forest National Park which is less than 30 minutes away. Ponies, deer and cows roam free in open grassland and beautiful forests stretching for more than 145 square miles. You can walk, ride horses, paddle canoes and cycle cross-country. Alternatively the sandy beaches of Bournemouth and Poole are just down the coast.

With an unparalleled reputation for linking fundamental research with real-world applications, Southampton is home to many world-leading research centres that consistently break new ground. Forty percent of our research income is derived from collaborative projects with industrial partners ranging from multinationals such as Rolls-Royce, Microsoft, IBM and Phillips, to small and medium sized companies. We have an impressive record creating spin-out companies and three of the twelve that have been spun out since 2000 have been floated on London's Alternative Investment Market.

The University of Southampton offers programmes at Foundation, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD levels in its three faculties of Engineering, Science and Maths, Law, Arts and Social Science (which includes Management) and Medicine, Health and Life Sciences.

With outstanding facilities, exceptional teaching, good accommodation and excellent social and sporting amenities, it's easy to see why students rate the University of Southampton so highly.
